With Harp and Fiddle on Our Backs

Nancy Thym, harp, and Thilo Viehrig, violin
Friday, October 23, 2009, Time TBA
Turn Verein Hall, 3349 J Street, Sacramento

In th 18th and 19th centuries, the harp women, as wandering musicians, played their music at inns, fairs, and on street corners. Nancy and Thilo will take folks on a journey through time as they play this early German music on medieval instruments, with Nancy singing songs including the first song written in venacular German. Nancy plays on a copy of the Gothic harp housed in the Wartburg in Eisenach, and Thilo accompanies her on a Baroque violin. They will be in period constume. Nancy and Thilo converted the Gotishes Haus, built in 1493 and converted it to a center for early German music.
